Sudwala Caves - Nelspruit (Mpumalanga in South Africa)

The Sudwala Caves 

The Sudwala Caves are situated around 17km west of Mbombela (recently called Nelspruit) in the Mpumalanga Province of South Africa. To get to the caverns, switch off the N4 onto the R539 and go on for around 6 km until you see a sign for Sudwala. Take the turning and follow the finished paperwork for a little more than a mile until you arrive at the caves. The caves are open all year long from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The standard extra charge for grown-ups is R100.

In ancient times the caves were utilized as a sanctuary by the Swazi clans amid war. The cave was at first found by Somquba, one of the children of the Swazi lord Sobhuza who was escaping from his sibling around then. He and his supporters involved the cavern as a shelter until Somquba was killed.
